If ANY type of code is thrown...will the Service Engine Soon light illuminate???

I've been reading many past threads and have noticed that many people have had MAF sensor problems, mixture problems caused by bad hoses, etc. So if my X5 has or were to develop a problem and throw a code, would my SES light come on to alert me of the issue? I'm new to BMW so bare with me. I just don't want to be riding around with a problem and not know about it. Should I routinely have it checked to see if any codes have been thrown, or will the onboard computer alert me to any issue by illuminating the SES light? Thanks for the help, and sorry for the "out-there" question.

Not to worry any code that is important will fire off the light. There are pending codes that will not trigger the light but will be stored. If a pending code is repeated it can trigger the light.

Awesome! I feel much better knowing that. I have had zero problems with my new-to-me '01 3.0 so I'd like to keep it that way. Although, a new final stage resistor is in my near future, but that's no biggie. I appreciate the help.
