Newbie looking for advice

Hello fellow bimmer freaks, I'm in the market for a used X5 and I need some advice on what to look for as far as common problems with this vehicle, also can someone tell me what are the differences on the 3.0 non-sport vs a 3.0 sport?
I took a 3.0 w/sport packg today and it felt good, it was an 01 w/60k for $23k, the only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the color (green) and beige int. with light wood , thank you very much and I look fwd to this forum.
Btw, I also hang out at e46fanatics,(great site) and I also own a 328ci which I intend to keep.

Welcome to the world. The guys can help you on the difference between the sport and non sport. I have non sport 4.4 and I'm just a girl San Fran and Jersey is a hell of a spread. I guess we're part time neighbors. Good luck.

Some folks (like myself) think the stiffer sport suspension gets old after a while so make sure you like the harsher ride before purchasing.

With that said, the sport package sure does look better with the nicer wheels, steering wheel and sport seats.

Good luck,

SPORT PACKAGE ($2100)

• Sport suspension calibration
• Shadowline trim
• 3-spoke multi-function sport steering wheel
• Anthracite headliner
• Black chrome exhaust tips
• Titanium-colored front bumper grille insert
• White turn-signal indicators and side markers
• Body-color exterior door handles and trim
• 18 x 8.5 Star Spoke (Style 69) cast-alloy wheels and 255/55R-18 all-season tires

Also note that on the '01, the Sport Package has the rear air suspension as standard equipment. It became an option on the 3.0i starting in 2002.

I thought I had the sport package but I have neither the 3 spoke steering wheel or the 18" wheels. I do have 19" however?

I would like the 3.0 sport pckg simply for the better handling and it seems that the rest it's mosly cosmetic, although it's nice to have but not a priority, except for the bigger wheels. I wonder if I get a non-sport and upgrade shocks and coils if I can get the sporty feel.

What year is your X5 and is it a 3.0i or 4.4i? The list I provided was for a 2001 3.0i.

The 3 spoke sport steering wheel didn't come out until 2001, and the 4.4i had the 19" wheels as standard equipment in 2000 and 2001.
