Does it look like the latches are out of adjustment? This seems to be the most recurremt problem.

I have the exact same problem. I have not been to the dealer yet. I searched and posted a thread on the problem but no one had any ideas.
Kills me to take it to the dealer for something I know I could fix myelf if I knew exactly what the problem was!! Please post if you come up with anything. |

It could be a bad lock actuator. I think both SuperGreg and I have had that part go out. Mine would repeatedly click whenever I pushed the button to unlock it. It sounded like a rapid "click-click-click-click-click" sound. Your symptoms are not the same but I mention this because that part has gone bad on a couple of our X5's so it might be the case with yours, it's just showing different symptoms.
Word of warning: If it is that, the mechanism is part of the upper hatch handle and that part needs to be ordered and painted since they come only primed. Alot time for this and advise your dealer.

I'll take a closer look at it this weekend and let you guys know if I come up with anything...I love the truck but I have only had it for 3 weeks and this is the second thing to get messed up, the first being a window regulator...but I was able to fix that with the help of the forum! Thanks.

OK, I think I have a fix for the problem. This worked for me. With about 6 inches to go for the trunk to close, close it firmly, not quite a slam , not quite a push somewhere in between. My buddy did it and it took me one or two times to get the hang of it. Locked and in place no problem!!!
