Can anyone help?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or details for the radio, TV module, sat nav and cd changer on a '01 X5? Does anyone know what else is connected to the fuse numbered 72 (30amp) in the rear side pocket fuse block apart from the radio, cd changer, sat nav and on board monitor. I am especially interested in the red/green wire and its route. Any help will be much appreciated.

Check out the "Online WDS" link at the top of the page. That leads you to the full X5 wiring diagram.

  1. Open the WDS
  2. Expand the "Component and signal information" list
  3. Expand the "Components" list
  4. Expand the "F_Fuses" list
  5. Expand "72"
  6. Select the description most closely matching your car
  7. See all the components on the right pane.
  8. Potential components include:
  • Navigation Computer
  • GPS Receiver
  • Amplifier
  • Radio
  • Video Module
  • MID
  • CD Changer
  • On-Board Monitor

Question

Have got X5 WDS working on pc...does anyone know why things like the sat nav, cd player, radio, on-board monitor, MID and video module might have a 12V permanent live connection through fuse number 72.

All of these components can boot and do stuff before you turn on the car and after you shut off the car. Therefore, they need power that is independent of the switched ignition switch.

I would not run switched power to all those components just yet. Try unplugging one at a time while monitoring the current drain. If you can isolate the component responsible for the drain, you may be able to fix or replace it.

One more thing to consider. The car "goes to sleep" after about 15 minutes or so. Therefore, you want to be sure that you are measuring the current drain after the car goes to sleep. (Or, at least confirm that it is actually going to sleep.) It could be something bigger, like a failure that is not letting the car go to sleep mode.
