roadkingdoc is on a distinguished road
3.0 01 x5 oil use?

my x5 is asking for some extra oil about every 1000 to 1500 mi it seems. around a quart or so. the oil lamp light comes on when its needed. 65k on the x5. is this normal? thanks roadkingdoc

burning some oil isn't entirely odd, but it shouldn't need oil every 1000 miles. You may want to take it to a dealer and get it checked.

I aadd a quart around 1500 miles 2001 3.0 100,000 miles.

never got an oil light however

Imo, a qt every 1500 will be well within any "specs" that a
Stlr would reference, even if you were still under some kind of
warranty. That usage would not be out of the norm, at
65K miles, and we don't know how you drive.

If there are no leaks/weeping, it is not going to be an
easy "fix"...I'd get it checked carefully by an independent
BMW wrench, for leaks, and if none, I'd forget about the
"problem" and just top up every 1-1500 miles.
