Alignment needed?

Is it necessary to get an alignment after you replace your control arms? My dealer charged me $250 for alignment after replacing the two front control arms under warranty.

I would imagine you would need an alignment, but not for $250!!! I think I normally pay around $70 - 80 for an alignment.

A good alignment shop usually only charges about $90 max for 4 wheels. Now you know why they are called $tealers.

If the dealer did the alignment because as a result of the control arms being replaced under warranty why was the alignment not done under warranty also?

Great, I feel dirty and violated. The dealer informed me that the alignment is not covered under warranty.

Jeesh, time to take a shower.

Don't jump off a bridge yet...I'm guessing that your X5 is a CPO and not under the original warranty? which would explain why the alignment was not covered by warranty.

Some more info. here about CPO coverage

Actually, my X5 is still covered under BMW warranty until 2008. In addition, I also had purchased extended warranty.

Hmmmm in that case, I think that the alignment should be covered.
I had alignment done as part of steering rack replacement and it was covered.
