What's Happened to the Fuel Economy of the Diesel X5 E70

I thought the new Diesel X5 was supposed to be 8% more fuel efficient than the previous model.

My combined country & city driving (on a forthnighty tank fill) on my E53 was 9.4ltr per 100klm, the new X5 is doing 11.2ltr.

Anyone else finding the economy not there?

I have done a few thousand km, another few thousand more is not going to give me an extra 2 litres per 100klm, it might give me .5 of a litre?

The economy I am getting is worse than the advertised sticker says on the windscreen when you first buy the car.

Mmmmm... I never understand how they achieve the "Advertised" fuel economy.. but apples for apples you should be getting equal to your e53 at worst..Are you driving in "SPORT" mode ? My car is here on Sunday so I hope to get it by end of month..I expect at least 9.4 combined....

9.4 litres per 100 km ...8% of 9.4 is 0.752 .. so on that basis you'd expect after run in etc 8.6 litres per 100 km... i.e. an 8% improvement, our calculators here are right hand drive but still add up ok I think !! LOL . As per Australian website for 3.0d ...

City : 11.3L/100km
Highway: 7.2L/100km
Combined: 8.7L/100km

Hi Mate,

I do not drive it in sports mode, but I did drive my old X5 pretty hard so the 11.2 odd litre per 100klm in my new X5 is very disappointng when I was getting 9.4ltr in my old one with 19"wheels & sports suspension.

You will like how the new lights look when you put them in your new X5, so not long to go hey until get yours?
