stupid newbie Question (yes I searched...a little)

I hope this pic works but is the Power steering resevoir the one that says ATF in the right side of the engine bay? close to the headlight?

I looked in the manual and I couldn't find anything that said where to check your fluid level? I refered to page 66 of the 2000 manual online and it just said what to do when you have steering trouble? I will look again though? It would have been easier to say yes that is it or no thats not it???? Just guessing though?

Actually don't have that year vehicle. But i do know that the manual does answer some of those questions.

It is pwr steering res. That '00 "manual" is pretty thin and doesn't
ref it.

Yes that is the power steering resevoir! Is that a 4.4 X5 you have?

I have an '01, looks the same under my hood.

Should be a little dipstick on the cap. I think (I'd have to check to make sure) that the X5 uses Dextron III ATF (tranny fluid) in the power steering system. Lots of other BMWs use the Dex III. If the fluid thats in there is red, then its Dextron III.
