Smile dealer's take on 3.0 tranny issues, Montreal

Hi,

I was at the Montreal delaer this week and I had a nice conversation with a SA, that in my opinion is really great. I asked about the infamous tranny question. His response was, "if anything had to happen to the tranny, it would of already happenned." This is coming from the horses mouth.

So, if it happens, it must be from abuse, erratic shifting or maybe even changing the oil.

This is my closing argument on the tranny 3.0 2003 issue.

thanks

And you would believe this, why?

reasons

I believe this becuase this is what this person does all day. He takes complaints and issues from BMW customers. Wouldn't you seek advise from a butcher on what meat is good and which is not? Well, I did the same thing, only this person works for BMW.

To all members on this forum, anything can happen to our cars. Whether it is a Lada or a Bently, it is all mechanical. After reading the posts, I thought it was good advise that I would post from a BMW service advisor.

Isn't that what this forum is about? Or is it about showing off of who has what on their X5?

I appreciate your analogy, but I think healthy skepticism is not out of the question.

I would not accept the underlying theory that he has your best interests in mind is all I am saying. I have had service advisors both tell me things that were 100% wacky and intentionally withold information of value.

A SA's first job is to sell repairs to customers. If he does not make the company enough money then they are replaced. Part of that process is to NOT admit that the maker has any problems or defects. So they could sit all day booking repairs for any of the common fail points and still tell you it was operator error.
If you have not noticed this is now the MO for all "Customer Service" operations.
