12v OUTLET in pass footwell ...always hot ?

Had a busy night last night, picked up the Aux input adapter at my local dealer for $31 and installed last night. Picked up a nice quality mini stereo lead and for now, connected the mini stereo lead and left the aux input jack behind the trim and ran the mini stereo cable up through the cup holder. (Wierd, like many others, I conveniently have one of the little cup holder wedge things missing leaving a hole).

Anyway, ran an iPOD power cable the same route and plugged it into the 12V outlet in the footwell.

At first glance, seems like that 12V outlet in the footwell is always hot. Anyone modify it to be hot only when ign on ??

Thanks

David

My applogies, I meant 'hot as in always 12V positive rather than physically hot.

I am an engineer and we like to speak in tongues to confuse folks

I think all the outlets in BMW are "hot"
Someone on forum said that thay changed te positive wire to other source that is "hot" only when car is on. That would make the i-pod or other acc turn on and off auomaticly.

I guess you mean Hot as in Live/Energised (when the ignition is off). Someone has rewired this by removing the existing connector and splicing a new lead into a switched circuit. I believe the glovebox torch charger socket is switch and very close - verify first. See this post.

Many thanks, that covers it exactly.

I will run a simple relay interupt that only keeps power on the footwell outlet when the glove box flash light circuit has power.

(i did try a search but must not have been using the right terms)
