Computer restart - now locked out of the boot

Hi

I would be really grateful for any solution. I have done extensive search and nothing showing up.

My wife left the lights on and killed the battery. I jump started the car - but the computer went dead.

I knew that I have to disconnect the batter and reconnect to reboot the computer.

However, May be I did not do it long enough (5 minutes - Apparently I need to give it one hour minimum) so as the result number of electrical components like central locking, air suspension and some more.

The problem is that because Central Locking is not working – windows are open and here in UK it looks it is going to rain tonight - I am now unable to open the tailgate to get into the battery and disconnect and reconnect.

Question - is there a manual method of opening the tailgate. I would have thought this is essential and not something that clever Germans would forget to put.

Or alternatively - Can one disconnect the battery from the engine compartment as I can still access the engine area.

Found the solution - now SatNav is dead

Oops

it was in the manual. My X5 is the 4.4i - page 206

So managed to open the door and this time left the battery disconnected for one hour.

Most of the issues are fixed except my SatNav is dead

It will not show up in the computer anymore.

Many thanks Big J

It is not looking so good

The alarm is now playing up, Air Suspension System is out and Central looking gone too.

It looks it is a BMW Job at 125 GBP + VAT.

Can you check that the battery is fully charged?, if not that alone can give you many issues.
Did you check all the fuses, i belive that there might be some in the back as well

This is exactly what a nice man at BMW in Barons of Farnborough told me.

Said before I spend 150 GBP per hour with them, to charge the battery over night.

I will see if that does the trick

Well it did not do the trick

Changed the battery to a very expensive battery and still no central locking, Air suspension or wipers not working

I booked BMW - but they said I have to wait a week. so I asked my local garrage to ask a software speciallist to have a look

I was not there when he came over but he did manage to tap into the computer and fix everything.

so I am very happy

only two things he could not fix

1- Radio keeps cutting out over bumps. So I think it is s dry joint somewhere which is not his speciallity

2- Sat Nav is still out so may be some other damage was done there.
