Navigation issues

Hi guys I have just installed a 16.9 onboard monitor and Nav system and can get sound out of the monitor but no picture. Has anyone else had this issue and if so how did you rectify this? I followed the instructions from one of the guys on this forum but I have done everything as he said it and still nothing. The cable that I got did not have all the connections on it as listed but has the connections for the nav unit, the radio and the board monitor. There is no connection to the light module or the control is this required? Also there is no Bordeaux connection for the Nav.
Any help would be appreciated.
By the way it is a 2002 3.0 X5 british model.

The Bordeaux connector contains the following signals:

Speed pulse, for dead-reckoning
Reverse signal, for dead-reckoning
Switched 12V, to turn on nav (not vital)

So if the purple connector is not fitted, you will have no dead-reckoning. Nav will still switch on fine, it detects the power switch-on command on the ibus.

The LCM (light control module) connection is for the reverse signal, which is connected to the purple plug.

I do not know what you mean be "control" in the above sentence.

Picture goes from nav computer blue plug direct to the screen.
If you have TV fitted, picutre goes nav-TV_tuner-screen.

Things to check for if you have no pic:

1. Does screen backlight work? Look for a change in the screen hue when the power is turned on.

2. Is nav coded for a colour signal? Where did the nav come from? There is an E46 nav variant that does not produce the video, but this can be fixed with my NavCoder software. NavCoder will also read and advise you if the nav is a Mono (E46, no colour screen) or Colour nav (what you need)

3. Do you have TV fitted? If yo, disconnect nav blue plug, turn ign off, wait 10min, turn on again. TV tuner will take over generating the graphics. You may have to switch on and off a few times to get the TV tuner to do its job. This test simply proves the monitor and the connection to the monitor is OK.

Hi thanks for the reply when I said control I mean't the instrument cluster I presume this is for the speed pulse?

I have a backlight on the monitor and can play cassettes and the radio but no picture.

Not sure if the Nav is coded for a colour picture bought it of ebay.

What does it mean by dead-reckoning? Could this be the problem?

I also do not have the TV tuner fitted.

Where can I get this NavCoder software from?

Thanks again

Instrument cluster connection is for speed pulse, correct.

Dead-reckoning is the term used to navigate when there is no GPS reception. The nav uses compass, speed, and forwards/backwards to update the position calculation.

Navcoder is here:

I guess your problem is that the nav is coded for Mono. Remove nav, look at label. Does it say BMWM01S on the label anywhere? If so, it is Mono (Colour is BMWC01S). NavCoder can change Mono to Colour, BMW service department cannot :-)

Hi checked Nav does not have anything like that on any of the labels on there but will try the NavCoder I have sent the details over. Do you have any photo's of the connection from the X5 system to your laptop so I know what I am looking at as I will have to make one.

Thanks again
