Thumbs down Strange issue with my homelink buttons RECEDING!

Hello all!

Hopefully somebody out there can shed some light on this problem that came out of nowhere with my homelink buttons in the headliner.

This is on an '03 X5 4.6L:

I left home for a couple of months and when I returned, my homelink buttons had recessed themselves up into the headliner!! It's as if whatever used to hold them together/in place had been removed. If I push any one of the three buttons, they just push up into the headliner with no resistance. Needless to say, they also don't work as far as opening my garage door etc.

Has anyone seen this before? I'm hoping for a quick fix before I start tearing into my roof liner!! I'd expect this from a cheap US or Jap car, but on my X5?!!

Thanks!

If you drop the Light cluster out first. You"ll be able to push the home link unit out with out too much problem. It sits in a cradle, that if pushed too hard, will go up into the ceiling.

Did you manage to get this fixed and if so - any insights?

My 2003 X5 4.4 has exactly the same issue. Went to push the button and it just went straight up into the light housing. Dealer says you need to replace the whole thing - whihc costs $500 for the part alone!
