Had my Level II Inspection and had my X-Pipe Installed Today

Went to the dealer this morning to get my car checked out and the oil changed. 2001 4.4 67,000.

They did not do a "by the book level II" as many of the items were recently covered, but did give it a thorough going over.

The list as follows:

1. Valve cover gaskets $545. Warranty will cover 100%

2. Belts starting to go $268. My party.

3. Tailgate handle. In an earlier post I asked about the license plate bulbs. I replaced the bulb, still did not work nor did the trunk release. I took off the handle, not much there to fix, tried some contact cleaner to no avail.

$248. Warranty will cover 100% .

I can get the part on Ebay for $69 and install it myself in under 4 minutes, so you know it is a big gravy job for the dealer. My feeling is I paid for the warranty, they are paying for it, the dealer likes it because they have a high margin on the job and maybe they will go easy on me on the customer pay jobs. I know they will. I know a lot of you don't particularly like dealers, but I also know they end up eating a lot of crap jobs too, in order to keep CSI up.

4. $100 for the oil change.

Everything else checked out fine.

I'll bring it back Friday for the other stuff and there will be a nice loaner waiting and my car will be clean when I pick it up.

Left the dealer and went to the muffler shop were they quickly removed my resonator and welded up the X-Pipe. Did everything in stainless in less than an hour, nice and tidy.

I am leaving the mufflers stock and am very pleased with the sound. To me just right. It seems meaner!

I want to, maybe I can get one of my kids to film it. I don't have a stock clip to compare it to.

This post has a clip from a 4.6

Great sound clips - it's been a while since I heard them. I've got my X-pipe, just need to make the time to have it welded in.

Great skiboats! You mind telling us how much you paid for the x-pipe install. Prices have ranged from $50 to almost $300 (that would be me)!
