Wth less than 100 miles left, and the dealer 100 miles away, phone light is on...

And won't go off. When I push the phone button, I see, "Please wait..."

If I read this correctly, it man be an expired warranty issue? No assist.

Since I don't use a bluetooth phone, does this mean I have to live with this light on forever?

Or could it be that the light came on because my recent passenger was carring a BT phone that the car tried to pair with?

100 miles left under warranty? AAA premium would tow it there for free.

Don't you have BMW Assist? Call them to have it towed to nearest dealer.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
If you call the dealer and set up an appointment telling them the situation they shouldn't give you no hastle, we do it all the time. And if it is just that the BMW assist contract is expired, and you don't want to renew it, you can have them "deactivate" the tcu through the SSS progman retrofits. (the dealers programming software) That will turn off the BMW assist portion of the TCU and the bluetooth will still work properly. You can also request the bluetooth pairing code at that time if you don't have it.

Thanks...

Since I purchased the car used last year, I was under the impression that I did not have assist. Especially since I pushed the button last year and was told so.

But anyway... to clear the red light, I have to have BMW turn it off. (A pain because I had been back and forth to the dealer in Seattle for 4 of the last 6 weekends.) I guess one more trip won't kill me.

as an FYI, typically warranty is in effect from the mileage that the first owner took delivery.

i.e. if it came with 100 miles on it, you get warranty to 50,100.

Another option is to find an indy shop with the computer hookup to disable it.

Not a chance. Warranty is 4 years from the first in service date OR 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. You do not get mileage above 50,000 covered under warranty.
