Whistle CPO and Valley Pan Gasket Canada

Can anyone tell me if the Valley pan is covered under the CPO Warranty, me dealer tells me NO. And if it is No does anyone who lives in Vancouver can recommend me to a mechanic that has done this work and what he has charged.

Thanks for your help,

The valley pan is definitely covered by CPO and your SA is an idiot for saying otherwise. This doesn't even fall into a gray area. When I had cooling problems with my '00 540i, my service tech replaced the radiator, water pump, and valley pan under the CPO plan without any hesitation.

There's at least 1-2 full days worth of work to remove and replace all the components laying atop the valley pan. That's $1200 worth of CPO labor paid by BMW that the dealer is turning down.

I think a valley pan gasket should be covered, and would recommend a discussion with the service manager (or a service advisor at one of the other three dealers in Vancouver).

It should be pointed out, however, that the poster is in Canada. BMWCA has entirely different warranty policies than BMWNA (which doesn't actually cover North America, and so should be called BMWUSA like their web site). I would read the fine print on the policy, and go from there. I couldn't find it online, but it isn't a secret document.

To the OP: were you dealing on the North Shore, on Burrard, in Richmond, or in Burnaby? My best experiences have been in Burnaby, and a long time ago in Richmond. Friends like the dealer on the North Shore. I won't go to the one on Burrard due to past experiences.

Valley pan

Talked to BMW Canada and they said it is not covered under the CPO Warranty at all, my car is currently located at Auto West BMW in Richmond, Heading out there tommorrow to pick up my car. for those that were lucky to get the part replaced for free, can you either contact your service advisor or provide me there name and location too see if they would be able to help me out, thanks and please let me know if any of you have been lucky to find a BMW certified mechanic who works out of his home part time?

Thanks for all your help

Before discussing suing anyone, it might be a good idea for the OP to read the applicable warranty policy, as no one else that posted above has ever seen the specific CPO agreement that applies here, they are all referenced the US or UK CPO policy.

Allen: Suggest that is your starting point. Post the applicable text if you want an interpretation. Also, up to you, but you may want to rethink posting your personal phone number here. I wouldn't. You can edit your post.

thanks, after having a detailed discussion with BMW Canada they are still refusing to pay for the gasket, I guess I will have to wait till I can find a BMW mechanic locally who works on the side.

i should give more detail, my x5 starter was jamming so i started to look and saw coolant leaking from V so called bmw emergency to tow car to dealer. dumb tech only found leak when i told exactly where leaking. dealer said valley pan leaking and warranty would not cover so i said repair car and let me deal with warranty knowing they would give grief and i could end up paying £700 for repair. anyhoo car repaired and i ask to see valley pan. blue gasket looked perfect so i looked very close and saw on corner under gasket that alloy had corroded, so asked dealer if possible to have independent engineer examine to confirm engine component failure and not gasket failure. dealer contacted warranty immediately and they agreed there and then to pay cost. you should be aware that valley pan may be warped and warranty should cover. common fault on porsche 928 V8 is alloy sump warping due to heat, metal is too thin.
