2002 X5 3.0D - problems - Help me please

Hi all

Just registered on the site after browsing for a while. I am based in Cannock, UK.

I have had my 3.0D (2002) for about 18 months and recently i have had a total nightmare with it.

My first problem was that i have replaced the gearbox and torque converter following a gearbox failure. This cost me £3750

Anyway to my new problems

1/ The radio and On board computer doesnt work properly. Its very pixalated and flashes on and off. (I have to disable the radio fuse to prevent battery drain as i found out by having a flat battery every morning.

2/ The front nearside indicator works when it wants to. It works perfectly when the hazards are on and sometimes works but most of the time it does not work.

The main issue for me id the radio and on board computer issue.

Any help would be greatfully received

pixel repair is somewhere on E53 forum , i read it the other day, you can search and i will search when i got more time if you can`t find it , also companies offering repair advertise here and on ebay. indicator problem may be switch needs cleaned. i would recomend having diagnostic test for pixel as flashing does not sound normal. some diagnosis can be done using trip counter and check control buttons (the two buttons between speedo and rpm ) instuctions on how to do sequence can be found somewhere on X5 world or e38.org BMW 7-series information and links . or get dealer to diagnose . edit, i found pixel repair, click on e38 link then look at left column for pixel display problems and fixes . found one with pictures further down column called MID pixel repair listed in electronics. ok i found OBC secret controls listed in electronics also more info on pixels.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Have you any ideas why that when i leave the car locked, the radio appears to switch on randomly and drain the battery?

This is why i have to remove the fuse from the car.

Cheers

there is a reason, i don`t know answer but i read similar problems on x5 world previously. try electronics forum or if you can track down weasel 56 he is a bmw technician. i can use my radio with no key in ignition but it switches off after 10 minutes or so. maybe your problem is related to that function.

Me neither mine is a 2004 3.0d, mayhave possible sway bar link issues as it makes clattering sounds on rough roads up front, and perhaps a small coolant loss issue every 1000km, maybe it is a mileage thing, but for sure if you scan the forums it has notes on the pixel issue etc
