low coolant

hi everyone just heard from stealer..they need to replace waterpump because they found a leak..sa said that it was dripping and would burn off before coolant hit the ground...this past winter i got low coolant indication on instrument cluster...brought it in and stealer topped it off and no more problems they said everything looked ok...for the past 3 weeks i have been checking and when engine is cold level was always at minimum also never saw any stains and car running fine..brought it in today and they said need to change water pump i dont know if i believe but any way lets see....they are also going to reflash tranny with updated software...keeping my fingers crossed all goes well...car will be ready tomorrow thankfully all covered under warranty...it is a 2005 4.4 with 17k miles i dont know if waterpump is really bad but i have to believe what stealer says..any opinions..thanks rob

Since it's covered under warranty we could offer opinions
but your dealer (Not always a stealer) has a handle on it.
So IMO no sweat. That's a great part to have replaced under
warranty.

Yes. If it's fully covered under CPO, no worries about it. Maybe just check the work order and make sure they did a coolant full flush and refill.

And monitor the coolant level for a week or two after the work is done.

Can't believe your waterpump failed at such low mileage though.

It didn't cost you a dime so I don't get it.
Would you have rather talked the dealer out of doing it?

It likely won't include a flush and fill. The current procedure is to catch the coolant that is draining and re-use it.
