Guys,
I followed the instruction in the link below and it worked for me. It invloves drilling four holes but then you don't need to take the needles off. The holes cannot be seen once it is put back together. I know it is for the 7 series but the cluster is the same. Good luck. Wondering why I'm up this late? PIXEL REPAIR. That's why. |

It's not too complicated. If you have already managed to get the instrument panel out of the car and taken the casing off then the only complicated bit is to get the drill holes in the right place....just above where the screws are . Then you can unscrew them and take off the board that has the dials on it. That reveals the circuit board underneath to which the LED panel is attached by a ribbon. It is this ribbon that I took off to clean and put back. It is stuck on originally with glue. The glue deteriorates over the years so you don't have a good contact. The glue has to be removed to reveal the contacts and the ribbon re-attached to get perfect pixels again.
But don't do it if you don't feel comfortable. You don't want to make a mess of the instrument panel as it is quite expensive to replace. |

Sorry, the above link is not the correct one (although still usefull to remove the LED and ribbon). That one involves removing the needles and I did not want to do that.
Here is the one that shows where to drill the four holes. Here is the rest of the story on how to do a pixel repair. |
