Mechanic is looking at MY X5

Guys,

Hello. My mechanic is looking at my X5. He is trying to figure out why I am getting an "Inactive Self -Level Suspension" message. Does anyone know what might be wrong with my X5?

Thanks.

I had the same message come up on my 04 4.8is X5, it would go on then off along with the light on the air suspension control for the low, mid, high; My X5 did not sag or lean any direction and drove normal; along with the selflevel message, the low tire pressure light came on, finally the Inactive Self -Level Suspension message came on again and pretty much stayed on. I brought it to the BMW dealership and they said it was the module for the air suspension. The part dealer cost is 500.00 after labor around 900.00. I’m not very technical with cars so I just had the dealer fix it and took the 2 year warrantee from them. However, if you use the search option in this web site, type in “selflevel susp inact” and you will see that this is a common issue and there are lots of items to check like the fuses and stuff like that. Good luck, and hopefully you will not be like me, my extended warrantee covers a lot of stuff, but didn’t cover the air suspension! I took a rash of crap from my wife since I just got the X5 3 months ago and I’ve already sunk in 900.00 for it not to mention all the extras I put on just for my likes… Oh well, I still love owning and driving my X5!
