Check Licplate Light (Some Help Please?!?!?)

Ever since I purchased by X my middle brake light (3rd Brake Light) (Pictured below) Never worked.

I would have wanted to fix it but i cannot find anyway to replace JUST the light itself. If there is PLEASE someone fill me in on the info.... Anyways from my research to replace this entire light its going to cost me around $320. which is NOT worth it for a stupid light...

To get to the problem, I opened up the trunk while the car was on and I got a light on the cluster saying "Check Licplate Light". Lic Plate meaning License Plate Light, when that popped up the first thing that popped in my mind was those 2 little tiny light bulbs that light up the plates yet i went and checked them... there working fine :/

So bottom line, my question is that if that middle light wasnt working, it would show the CHECK LICPLATE LIGHT error? thats the reason behind that?

Thanks for your time!

check the 2 bulbs - mine used to leak water and I had to replace the whole rear door latch assy - though, upon reflection, I should have had them just remove it, clean it, and the re-install it with new gasket..., oh well.

But both of the 2 little lic plate lights work fine, its the 3rd brake light (stomp light) [shown in the picture] that does not work yet gives me the "Check licplate light" error on the dash.

The light you show is the brake light. The lic plate lights can get corroded because of water getting in there--remove them and clean/sand the connectors and the idiot warning light will go away. This is a common prob.

But if that's the case then why isn't my 3rd brake light not working? In 01 4.4i the 3rd brake light from what I'm told is circuit not LED....

check the 3rd light with a continuity meter and see if the light is blown. go from there

could it be that center light is on the same circuit as the license plate light?
