Funny Idle/braking at full stop

So we've had our 2005 X5 4.4i sport for 7 months. Love the car. But it seems to be very sensitive on the breaking when you come to a full stop. It is like it surges just as you near full stop. The end result is a sudden/quick stop which less than smooth/gradual.

Has anyone had this problem? If so, what could it be? An idle sensor?

Thanks in advance,

-DR

Also sounds like the infamous "transmission slam" try searching for that...

Transmission slam is when the gearbox seems to change into first gear with a thump just after, or as you stop. I have found that it gets worse when I baby the car and the adaptive transmission sets itself into a very relaxed mode and does not select first quckly enoungh when you are slowing down. Thrash it a bit, or drive in sport mode for a while and it may clear itself...

I have a 2005 3.0D (had it for two weeks) and have this issue, as I like to brake slowly, not hard when pulling up to lights.

The first time it happened, I thought someone hit me from behind.

Now, i have some research to do since I know what it is.

Thanks,
Rob
