Is the stealership pulling a fast one on me?
It looks like 2 different woodgrains. Is it possible it may have chemical, sunbleached, or sweat, fading or is the dealership bsing me. ![]()

Looks about the same to me in the pic... but do you really think the dealer would be "getting over" on you if the shifter knob had been changed already from someone scratching it with a ring or something??? You do understand what a DEMO vehicle is don't you?

Regardless, the "fading" or discoloration in the wood, it is not covered by warranty. You need to get clarification on your warranty. I think you have the REMAINDER of the OEM warranty plus whatever your CPO warranty is. Manufacture's warranties begin when the car is first put into service (even as a demo), not when sold to the first purchaser. So, if the X was put into service as a demo in July 2006 but sold to you this year, your original warranty is over. It's suspicious why a dealer would keep a demo in service for that long before selling it.....

omg i would return that back to the dealer for sure? heck it had tiny scratches and stuff too?
well used is used, no matter how you look at it, even if its 10 miles...its not new anymore right, we just have to live with it. looking for perfection in a used a vehicle is rare....beyond perfection would call for brand new out of the box vehicle. |

It's a 2006 AND a demo. I think a fair amount of wear and tear should be expected after 4 years of use and abuse.

I would have the stealer give you a new knob and anything else that's not right. However, I would never buy a demo X5, this is the same as a loner car when you go in for service. Most people beat the heck out of those loaners. IMO

There is nothing wrong with demo cars, these are the ones the dealer uses for test drives... The loaner cars may get dogged as if they were rentals, but not many people dog out cars with a salesman sitting next to them.
For instance, My 03 4.6is was a demo for the first year and 15k miles of its life. Then went to it's first owner other than the dealership for about 5 years, then when it was traded in at the end of it's extended warranty period with about 75k miles and I bought it... Just over 2 years later I'm pushing 98k miles and have many many more to come as I'm about to go from being 2.5 miles from work to 55 miles from work with commute.
