The *best* mechanic?? where is he, I have a challenge

Folks,

Some of you may recall awhile back I was having some vibration problems.

I still am. I've been to a couple shops, and umpteen trips to the dealer. No one seems to be able to diagnose exactly where this vibration is coming from.

I"ve got decent, good mechanics here - both at the dealer, and at independent shops.

I"m looking for the *best* guy though. Willing to travel...I just want the car fixed.

So... if you know that incredibly anal, extremely smart, slightly (or very) odd mechanic who has his own shop, and particularly likes challenges, I'd like to get their name and number and have a chat - and potentially drive up to see them.

I'm not looking for a run of the mill place - I'm looking for those *exceptional* folks, who can take a roll of steel and a roll of copper and make a car, an engine harness, design a driveshaft out of cardboard, and make it all work...

There are a couple of these folks in the "volvo-land" that I play with, but I don't know a guru like this for BMW.

Thanks!

Check the temperature of your rotors at each corner after a hard drive. A rear caliper could be faulty. Check there are no bends to the inside lip of all wheels. U can do it!

here's one also i finally brought my beauty to the stealer cause it had an annoying squeek in the back and it wasnt the traditional hatch door. it was a couple of loose bolts in the suspension at first so they said...69 bucks which i thought was cheep . I left and 30 seconds later i realized the squeek was still there and made a u,ee and talked to the gm and he said sorry ill take care of it. i get the call a day later suppossedly it was the passenger side control arm which cost $1,031 bucks... i stated just fix the problem please.....i picked up the car after two more days and then i left after being furious from the first misdiagnose.... and i thought i heard something but said to myself its a figment of my imagination but low and behold when i arrived home i went to my lake which has speed bumps and there it was again........holy fwqopeuroqpweurq i am now a mellow dude but just do me right...i called the gm and let it rip,,,,,said hope you are ready for a hurricane cause all i asked for was to get rid of a simple squeek and never asked for a price and you couldnet even do that now you made me spend and wait for five days without my baby and its done what now? all he did was apologize but F that I say never go to Bridgeport, Ct. BMW they know shit and simple at that a back yard mechnic could fix it...question is how far is it worth me going with this on this stealer?

Well, I have had great luck with my indy mech, his name is Maurice and he owns Bavarian Automotive here in Wichita. his number is 316 263-3661, and there is a website. http://www.bavarianautomotive.com/. Hope he can find your problem. A lot of people from surrounding states come to visit him especially.

A little closer to home, than KS...
German Motor Werks of Asheville, Inc.

Scott is owner/long time wrench, Liz his wife, answers phone,
good techs there, too. Can't guarantee he can fix you, but
worth a chat. Tell him "David with the 5 speed X5" sent you.

Drop a dime, and see what he says. They are usually packed
with BMWs, some MBs, & lotsa PCars for everything from oil
changes to full motor re-dos.

There are also several top indie shops that advertise in the
NC Tarheel area BMW CCA monthly newsletter, but I tossed my most
recent issue; surprised you can't find an Indie to fix you, over
in your more populated area.

Aight. The best BMW mechanic locally that I've used is Performance Chassis in Cary NC. Mark and Andrew are excellent. Many thanks to them, and their staff. Simply excellent.

You left the herd, so I guess this thread is closed. Good luck with the wagon and truck.

He ditched the car and apparently doesn't like BMW's anymore.
