extended warranty - maxcare warranty group

I have posted on here a few times and was looking at a carmax x5 and inquired about their extended warranty company. First off the warranty price is great I can get 6 yrs from purchase date and up to 100K miles for $2269 with a $100 deductible which is a great price.

I called BMW to ask them what they think of this company and their experience and a service manager said that they will not cover allot of their labor rates and pricing for parts where the customer is on the hook for the difference of what they will cover.
'
What kind of BS is that? If I have a BMW I want a BMW certified mechanic to work on the car. Has anyone in here had experience with this warranty?

No experience with maxcare...I did have Warranty Direct for 4 years; they also covered at a 'rate' for the job/or an hourly 'rate'. I don't 'know' all the aftermkt warranty coverage(s) out there in warranty land, but I've read the many pages of threads on this site, that talk about 3rd party warranties, and most will not cover the lofty hourly rate a BMW dlr charges. That hourly rate is not going in the pocket of the BMW tech, by the bye.

It isn't BS...you can take your car to the BMW dlr, or an Indie or, the local garage; but, most aftermkt warranties will not cover lofty hourly rates or parts marked up.

The warranty is to cushion some/most of the bite when you get a repair done, post oe warranty. Even BMW's CPO has excluded items/repairs, and the fine print states there is a deductible for 'inspecting/diagnosing' the work, per take back.

Get to reality; none of the extended warranty companies will cover anything, or everything and at the prices any brand dlr will charge, and certainly not for that '$2269'. And, that's why they have a $100 deductible up front, too.

just for reference, i just paid $3600 for my zurich drivetrain only warranty. only covers 3 years/45K miles with no deductible. i did a lot research and zurich came out on top. they seem to cover many issues without resistance. i guess i'll see how true that is.

Sounds like you are a candidate for the BMW extended warranty then. If you buy a less expensive warranty, then you have to expect that you are also buying some risk on what it covers, that what it covers may not be at dealer labour rates, and that the parts that are replaced may not be new or OE.
