CEL light is on.

My 2000 4.4i has the check engine light on. Was coming from a 300Km trip and was felling the engine weird from 4000rpm up in 5th gear. When I stop the car the CEL went on. Thought it could be bad gas and fill the deposit. The engine felt better but again after 4000rpm in 5gear the engine is failing like if the fuel pump is not giving enough fuel to the engine. At low rev the engine works perfectly only at high revs the power cut is felt.

I´m in Africa and there´s no BMW dealer next by, any ideas might be causing this power cuts at high revs? Thanks in advance.

Where in Africa are you?Angola???
Were you driving in extremely dusty roads?
Since you obviously, dont have access to a diagnostic scanner,I would first check the "easy" things...air-filter,spark plugs and fuel filter in this order.
First easy test you can do is disconnect your MAF plug,,incase its faulty.

If you have no dealer nearby then you need to buy a code reader (Peake is very good) or the complete diagnostic software/hardware package and a Bentley Repair Manual. Once you read the codes then you'll have a better idea of what you need to address to rectify the problem.
If you do a search online for OBD II Code you'll see the list of possible problems and just how many things that could be wrong to trip the light. To start throwing parts at your vehicle in the hope of curing the problem will turn out expensive and frustrating. You'll also need at least the Peake to turn off the light.
