2006 Pano Roof Help?

I will try to remember the exact sequence of what happened, but I am not absolutely positive:
  1. Used sunroof last night. It sounded and behaved normally.
  2. Closed the roof (inner panels and outer glass when I arrived home).
  3. Drove to work this morning, shut off the engine and then turned the key back on to acc mode so I could open the roof shade.
  4. As the shade started moving back, I stopped it (one push up) so that I could restart the opening with two clicks (I wanted the glass to open too.) Noticed that only the shade was moving.
  5. After the shade was fully retracted, I tried again to open the glass. No soap.
  6. Tried to close the shade, but got no response.
  7. Thought maybe I blew a fuse so pulled the glove box 30 amp fuse. Tried the roof again, no response.
  8. Tried using the key to move the roof. Could cycle the locks and could open and close the windows, but the roof still would not move.
  9. Assuming there was a reset circuit in the switch, held it for a few seconds to see if it would move. No dice.
  10. Decided to try to figure it out later. Went in to work.
  11. Checked the web and found that the button needs to be held 75 seconds to reset.
  12. At lunch, got into the car and started it. Without pressing any buttons, inner shade moved forward. (It either moved all the way forward and then when I tried to open it again, it only went two inches -OR- It closed all the way except the last two inches, I don't remember which). Thereafter, it would not move again.
  13. Tried holding the button up for 75+ seconds. No response from the roof.
  14. Went back to work.
  15. When I got home, I read in another thread that the engine should not be running when reset/re-initiazation was attempted. Tried again; turned the key to acc. and this time held the button for well over two minutes. No movement.
So that is when it stands. The glass is closed and the inner shade is open two inches. Can anyone tell me if I did something wrong in the re-initialization procedure, or if there is another fuse/relay I need to find and check?

Thanks.

For those who have also experienced problems with the Pano roof...

Once it is completely closed and will no longer move, without taking out the headliner, I see no way of checking roof problems. With that said:

As you can see by the date of my first post, it was very hot when my roof first jammed.

Since then, it has cooled a bit outside, and I have taken on a contract in Wisconsin. The combination of these two factors seems to have freed my roof. Today I went out and cycled the roof and it opend and closed as normal. The inside shade did it's two inch at a time thing until it was properly closed.

So, my point here is that if you have roof problems and it is hot outside. Unless you absolutely cannot wait, do NOT take the headliner out and or disable sections of the roof.

Instead I would wait until it is cooler, and then see if it will cycle. If it does, you can examine the track at that time for debris or lubrication problems and keep your roof factory correct.

I think I wrote a follow-up in another thread, but in case someone comes here...

Winter in Wisconsin seemed to cure all my roof problems.

I think what happened was that while in South Carolina I had the car detailed. This was a week or so before the roof stopped working.

I think the wax from the detailing - along with the 105 degree temperatures "sealed" the roof by cutting down on the space available for heat expansion. After moving to Wisconsin in October, the roof started working correctly again.

Whenever I have roof movement problems (one time due to dealer disconnecting the batt for some work), I use the reset procedure described on this forum. It works! Cant remeber the sequence but search for it and you'll find it.

Glad to hear you got your roof working again, I remember when my e53 roof stopped half open, I was lucky it was still under warranty.

A Warranty is a beautiful thing.

Hold the sunroof button up, toward the sky for about a min. Then keep holding till it comes back to the original, everything closed position.

Pano roof help

this is for anyone. my sequence of events is as follows
1. opened sunroof in 'vent' stage
2. closing sunroof
3. heard a snap/pop while closing
4. tried to close roof and it will not close all the way. noticed the driver side front and rear glass not coming down. inspection of rear glass lid show corroded 'rear glass control carriage' and it seemed to have seized up. further inspection shows the 'front glass lid mechanism' jumped out of the ' drive wedge'. looked a little deeper and found that the rails that it 'drive wedge' slides on broke off. Now i read that ECS has a repair kit for Pano roof has anyone used it and does it have the parts that i need. just looking at the pictures it would seem so but i dont know if it is for regular sun roof or Panorama roofs
