Physically, probably.
But since none of the electronic controls would interface, it is not a practical swap.

Nobody has ever done it, so this is all speculation. I am telling you that there is likely physical space to bolt the twin turbo engine in, but by the time you add in everything to make the computer believe it is an E70 (control modules, gauge cluster, full wiring harness, all sensors, transmission, transfer case, etc, etc) there is absolutely no point to it. That is because the software in these vehicles is specific to all of these components, and everything is integrated together.

I dont see why it couldnt be done. The main issue is not electronics, it would be engine to transmission and frame match up.
The engine electronics are almost self contained. You could run that engine on a test stand with the computer attached and without the car electronics. If this was a vette or a sports car, someone would have already made a conversion kit for it. X5......... . nahhhhhh. If I were to attempt it and go through the trouble of a conversion. . . .I would be trying to shoe horn a supercharged LS-7 in there.... .

I think a motor and trans from an X5M would get in there. But I agreed the biggest challenge would be electronics. I do believe the motor and trans would only need their own computers and it would work! But I also think it would throw codes every second it was running and prolly always be stuck some fail safe mode.
