4.4L V8 oil dipstick very hard to pull out

Not sure if it's due to negative crank pressure or maybe the dipstick end is getting stuck on something but I've noticed when I go to check the oil level the dipstick requires a good amount of pulling force to get it to release from the dipstick tube. Once out and put back in it is far easier to pull out again. Seems to only occur after the engine is running.

Maybe a strange symptom of a faulty CCV?

Dunno...the dipstick on our '01 3.0 IL6 has always been a very snug fit, hot or cold.
It takes a real tug, anytime. When I check the oil, I wipe those 2 o rings on the pull circle end, and it seems to go back in more easily, for the 'check' pull.

I have zippo apparent CCV problems, and the car hasn't been in really cold weather/short trips for years, so I don't think my 'snug stick' is due to a CCV situ...
But, no idea on why so snug; just the way its always been on mine.

Ok. I bought a brand new replacement dipstick a while back (old one cracked at the plastic end....thankfully didn't drop into the oil pan). Old one was just as snug as the new one. Must be the double o-ring seal.

Yes, it is really tight when removing but what bothers me more about the dipstick is that it is really hard to read when removed.

I just replaced mine a few months back also, picked up one from Pelican, the plastic on mine was cracked also, and yes it is a tight fit.

This is normal AFAIK. Mine has been roughly the same "tightness" for over 6 years and has always been a tough initial pull. I wouldn't worry about it too much since it seems to be quite common.

This is the case on both of my BMW's. The trick is to simply twist the dipstick a few times to the left and right, and it will loosen that seal up quite a bit!

There is pressure in the system. I'm surprised it was still running smooth when you took it out. Most times it will shut down while sucking air in the system. Also there are O rings near the end of the stick to prevent air entering and exiting the system.
