General Grabber vs Bridgestone Dueler tires

It's come down to these 2 tires for my wife's car. The tire size I need are 255/50-19, 285/45-19. From the searching I did on this forum, the General tires are pretty well liked. I would go for General but I feel a little uneasy getting that brand because I have never heard of them before. Comfort and treadwear is most important for us. Any input would be appreciated.

Scott

Don't get "cheap" tires whatever you do. I made that mistake. Spend the extra cash and get a good quality tire made with higher quality rubbers, metals, etc. BMW and other European vehicle suspension setups tend to amplify the fault of cheaper tires. I found flat spotting is very common on tires like General and Falken.

I bought a set of Yokohama YK520 all seasons from Discount Tire and love them so far. 520 wear rating which is excellent. I've used this tire on previous Euro cars with great results, even in the snow/rain.

I just recently mounted the General UHP Grabber tires with the exact same setup as you mentioned on the thread. Tires are very quiet, and the traction is very good. Just because it is the least expensive tire doesn't mean is not up to par with the more expensive tires. Just read the review on tirerack. You will know what I am talking about.

I wanted to get the Generals last year but they were on backorder for an unknown period of time.
Bought Bridgestones instead for $100 more per set. Good Tirerack reviews on the Generals.

I run the Dueler right now. They are a good ride in terms of comfort and noise, but they seem to be wear rather quick, probably due to my hasty driving style or the crappy roads we have in here. I didn't buy them according to reviews, it was just that the Dueler 285 size was the only decent priced one (Michelin/Pirelli/etc had some strange high prices around here) and I ended up with Bridgestone. So far I am pleased with them and I would probably buy again.

I was in the same boat, choosing between a fancy brand and the General/Nakang/etc range. Since I was going to use the tires for a longer period of time, I decided to go for the brand ones. If I was to use them for a season only, or something like that, I would definitively have gone for the cheap ones.

I've got the General UHP's on my 20" wheels and they have been great so far (10k on them). I bought them based on the TireRack user reviews. They were rated higher than all the more expensive tires for my wheels, at least the ones I saw.

I've been running the General Grabber UHP on the same staggered 19" setup as OP for about 20,000 miles. No problems or complaints, and treadwear seems decent. I also live a warm climate so I run "summer" performance tires year round. An added bonus is the fact that the tread pattern on the General UHP looks bitchin. They really attract attention to the beefy 285 rear tires. Since putting on the Generals I've had a few people comment on how wide the rear tires appear.

I got bridgestone dueller H/P sport on my 4.8is and have 10k on them so far, they are amazing in dry and wet conditions, great in high speed turns (slightly more roll than the diamaris though at high speeds) low noise and so far no issues with tread wear.

Not so great in snow though and would'nt recommend driving them in snow, I would highly reommend them if you do most of your driving in dry/wet conditions.
