Check Oil Level Low warning on 2004 - 4.4i

Hi Folks,

Check oil level low warning popped up this weekend. I changed my own oil beginning of summer, give or take between 4-5months ago I know for fact there was exact amount. I own 2004 4.4i sport, no oil spills in my garage, I don't notice any smoke when I'm traveling. I've had the bolt for the oil pan replaced this year by BMW. Dealership told me it was normal to add more oil to my engine when this warning came up. I probably added about half of quart oil this weekend. Anyone else with similar issue. Should I be worried about this??

Looking forward to your feed back....
Cheers,
Soner

Some oil consumption is completely normal.

Calculate the amount of oil consumed, and the miles travelled, and report back.

Thanks for the feedback,

I will start keeping a log...I assumed this was not normal, I feel bit better.... or I guess depending on how much oil is burned, it might not be normal either I guess, I shouldn't get my hopes up, my ride might have problems sucks.

What would you consider not normal.....

Most manufacturers use a figure around 1 quart per thousand miles as the cutoff for a warranty claim for a new vehicle. They call anything less than that "normal" even though many customers do not consider adding oil in between changes to be normal.

I typically added one litre or quart per 5000 km/3000 miles on my X5, less on my other BMWs.
