installing Nav HU WITHOUT Mark IV

Hi guys. so I've tried doing research on this for about a year now and I have not been able to find a definitive yes or no so I'm going to ask you all... Can the Nav head unit be installed into the deck and be used without having to install the navigation system in the rear? I do not want it, or the blue tooth or the cd changer. I merely want it for looks AND potentially to hook up a reverse camera.
Can this be done?

Also, am I correct in saying that all Nav HU's have the DSP capability. Its the rest of the stereo that determinies if the DSP is an option, correct?

If I buy a Nav HU do I have to worry about some not having the DSP, as my X5 currently DOES have it and I do not want to loose it.

EDIT: I just found out you can not.
Oh well.

Actually, you could have a Navigation monitor without the MKIV drive, as the TV Tuner module can output graphics.
I believe TV without Navigation was an option outside of North America. It would require recoding of the car and some of the modules.

Having the car coded for DSP only brings up the additional DSP menu item in the navigation display. The DSP amp would need to be installed (and connected to the i-bus) for the menu item to remain.

No need for coding. If the DSP amp is on the iBus, the menu item pops up in the display, simple as that

and the TV tuner has the rear camera input, so yes, you can have 16:9 monitor up-front, and the TV tuner in the back and no navigation. you still need the wiring from the back of the car to the front. there is a Nav retrofit factory instructions out there, i saw it but don't remember where... do a google search...
