4.6 into a 4.4?

Tried searching around but didn't find anything useful. Basically I'm wondering what is needed to swap a 4.6 into a 2002 4.4 x5?

The real issue is finding the 4.6 motor. It would be cheaper/easier to supercharge your 4.4 and you'd make more power than the 4.6 anyway.

The 4.6 uses a ‘beefed-up’ version of the 5HP24 transmission with the bigger L51 Sachs WA4/W280 S-2GWK torque converter (and bellhousing to suit), extra friction plate in the D-clutch, revised B-clutch valve in the upper valve block, etc. so you’d really need to change the transmission too?

Good to know, thanks guys. Any recommendations on S/C Kits? not feeling the $12k Dinan price tag for their kit.

ESS: http://www.vacmotorsports.com/catalo...t-540i-all.htm

VF: BMW E39 540i M62 4.4L > ES#2079276 VF Engineering Supercharger Kit (410hp & 395 Ft-Lbs Torque) - VFK43-01

Both kits made for 540, but with a little tweaking could be setup for your X. I don't believe there are any kits available specific to the M62 X5.

A front/rear differential swap will be your best bang for the buck.
