X5 SatNav retro fit

Hi all,

I am pretty new to this so please be gentle

I have recently took the dive into the world of the X5 4.4i, I am the proud owner of a low mileage 325i E46 but wanted a big thirsty toy to play with and being a BMW fan I wanted the X5. I have loved these cars and wanted one since they first came out.

So I managed to get a 2004 X5 sport with only 85,000 miles and a full and comprehensive service history, and in the past 12 months the previous owner has spent over £5k in repair bills doing all the normal bits and bobs including bushes and brakes. The garage i bought the car from had previously sold the car to the previous owner 4 years ago, the service from the garage was so good he traded it in and bought a smaller car. Tough economic times

The only thing that the car is missing is sat nav, now I have done loads of research on this very forum and other places but am not sure if my car is wired or not. I have found all the parts I need to get the satnav, disk and head unit but don't know what connectors need to be installed in my car to ensure they work?

Can anyone post some pics up of what wiring is in the boot of the SUV so I know what to look for.

Love the board by the way

Happy X5 owner

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
www.bimmernav.com is where you can find the wiring needed if you already have the other parts, they also sell full retrofit kits as well.

as far as I knew even if you are "wired" for the nav you still have to have the proper harness, if it was as simple as buying the radio, dvd unit and head unit from BMW I think a lot more of us would have retrofitted the OEM navigation.

hi there

Yeah I have looked at bimmernav but I just need to know if my car is already wired for nav, I have no idea what connectors I need to see to know if I can just go ahead and get the parts to retro fit.

I have heard all the US models are prewired but I am not sure the European ones are.

What connectors need to be on the wiring loom for the nav??

i have a PDF with X5 retrofit instructions... the E53s were prewired for some options and not for the others... the Nav option required that the radio was located in the trunk, not in the front, and there were some other wires for the wheel speed sensor and whatnot... so, the Nav was not prewired unless you already had a TV option in your car (euro version cars) and already had the monitor and the BM54 radio but not the Nav computer...

if you PM me your email address i will send you two files, one for X5 and the other one for E39 as a reference...
