Need oil cooler for N62 (plus TIS "how-to")

I managed to somehow get a pinhole leak in the oil cooler of my 2005 X5 4.4i (N62 V-8).

So, used or new, I need one.

Also, if someone has the TIS info on how to replace it, that'd be great.

My confidence is a bit shaken after managing to end up with an oil cooler leak after replacing my water pump (successfully...).

Oh, and I need it somewhat quickly...especially the TIS as I'd like to do the tear down this weekend.

Thanks!

So far I've been able to get the oil cooler loose (2 screws -- one on each end). One bolt connects the two pipes as one unit to the cooler. It then is somewhat loose and can be wiggled out below the radiator, towards the front bumper. It helps taking the right brake duct off to give yourself some more wiggle room.

Oil cooler is $1100 from the dealer, pre BMW CCA discount. It's cheaper on line, but shipping will likely kill any savings as I need it by Friday morning.

Oh yeah, almost forgot the rant part. The Bentley is useless for the oil cooler removal. It's also useless for the bumper removal on the face-lifted X5's. I tried taking the front bumper off but that ran into issues too. Took all the visible bolts off, then got the ones under the bumper and behind the fog light trim rings. Still no joy...oh well, it appears I don't need to take it off other than for convenience of getting the new cooler in.

Thanks! Those little side clips were the thing that stymied me.

Now, to find a place that sells the oil cooler and can get it to me in short order.

I'll be hitting the phones tomorrow.

Call this dude. Tell him you are from Xoutpost club. He hooks up clubs. 15% over cost. Pretty sure he will be the place to buy new.

It's pretty thin aluminum. I suppose a guy could clean it, clean it another dozen times, then try to tig weld it.

If I had the time to run around this week and get that done I would. However, I'm also a bit concerned about the consequences of a failure of that fix if it fails. Best case is your just oiled your own track and you spin out or some other delicious outcome. Worst case is you toast your engine too. The velocity and quantity of oil coming out just on startup was astonishing. A 1/3 - 1/2 liter in a few seconds (4' stream!!).

Epoxy putty is something I thought of for a quick solution to drive to a shop to deal with it (or to move it around in the garage).

JB Weld to the rescue!

Not a good solution for driving between Vegas and Tucson though. Some pretty lonely spots out there...
