my 2005 4.4 i engine had misfire errors and now will not start
Problem engine cranks but won't start. Start of problem. Engine developed oil leak while driving on highway driving and shut down after loosing a little over half the oil. Car left alone for a couple of months before attempting repairs. Repairs completed. Generic DTC scanner showed p0300 error (general misfire) and this error condition lloked like it was cleared with my OBD2 generic scanner tool. Repaired oil leak -(came from oil cooler which sprayed everywhere) Replaced oil and filter. Replaced battery as it had never been replaced and was only reading 2.2 V after sitting for a couple of months. Current status Engine turns over but no sign of life. spark plugs look good and a spark was seen on turning over the engine when one was removed for observation. cold engine compression test show 190 to 210 lb on all cylinders. There is no visible signs of damage to the motor. Engine has about 178,000 kms. gas is being pumped to fuel rails although the pressure has not been measured. I am a new novice BMW owner and just learning how these vehicles work. I have purchased the BMW X5 Service Manual which includes some of the 4.4i N62 engine information but not the valvetronix stuff. What I think is going on. The BI-VANOS part of the engine lost oil pressure causing the engine misfire condition, The DME could have shut down the fuel injectors to prevent catalytic converter damage. It may not have cleared to allow the fuel injectors to operate. I may be wrong but I am stuck at this point. does anyone have a suggestion. Do I have to get a BMW specific diag tool to reset the DME? |
