Oil Change
If I get an oil change done by a non BMW service centre is there anything I need to know? Is it just a case of new oil and filter or is there something special about doing oil changes on an X5 diesel? Would you advise sticking to BMW and their prices?

:iagree: For me when buying second-hand, as I usually do, no BMW service history equals no interest. I wouldn't even bother to look. |

Whats it with us Aussies Always on the cheap.
I tend to agree with getting it serviced at a BMW service centre but I for one will have to take mine to a non BMW service centre because the nearest one is 2.5 hours away. |

Apart from the loaner, do the BMW service centre really stand out from the crowd? I'm not too sure if any one else does it, Ultratune, Midas etc, but if you look at Land Rover, Jeep, Holden, Ford dealers and service centres their prices are well over priced in comparison to aftermarket types. I'm saying this after just having sold a Discovery 3. It was serviced every time by LR and I even caught them out, 2 different centres, for not changing the oil. Pretty disgraceful. I swore to myself that the next car I bought, I would service it myself. However the BMW service stamp seem to go a long way by the looks of it. Personally, for my own mind, I don't care about who serviced it, as long as it was actually serviced by a reputable service centre.

I have always got my BMW serviced at a reputable dealer but I have had enough qualms to be disillusioned with them and with sticking to the official dealership circuit. Does anyone have any recommendations or positive experience with independents in Melbourne that they would like to share?
