Overrun

Since the last update about 6-8 weeks ago, on trips of over 30 mins the car has got what I call 'overrun' when you press the button to turn the car off, it carries on and clonks for a second. BMW Aust say there is nothing to worry about, it is normal, it is excess fuel burning off or the engine has coke deposits. I don't agree, the car was perfectly normal and quiet for 2 years, it now seems i have $110K tractor!!

Anyone else heard of or suffering from the same problem?http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif

How long does it run on for after you hit the start/stop? One second, two seconds, three seconds?

aussiex5 07-11-2010 03:21 AM

Only for about 1 second

I don't think I'd be worried about that. How long since/before a service?

Car has done 22000, readout says 21000 until service but I have been advised to get an oil change done which will happen in the next 2 weeks

Sounds strange to me that your X has done 22,000km but the OBC says 21,000km until next service. Nominal service interval is 25,000km. I'd mention the 'running on' when you take it in.

OBC shows up on every start has slowly been counting down, was 23,000 now shows 21,000 (Auto Classic confirmed it as a count down) Have complained to Auto Classic and BMW Aust repeatedly since it started and they tell me it is nothing to worry about, it is normal and can be caused by either fuel residue being ignited as engine stops or a build up of carbon. As far as BMW Aust are concerned they have looked into it and come up with an answer, but I don't understand why it should be ok for 2 years then start doing this. Why should BMW Aust expect me to accept this?

What's your driving regime?

aussiex5 07-25-2010 10:23 PM

Not working so can use it 1 day and then not for a couple of days, but this problem only shows on trips over 30 mins or more. Oil was changed last week.

I mean city or country, or both? What sort or speeds and throttle application?Do you drive easy or hard?

Did BMW say anything when you had the oil changed?
