Had an X1 23d loaner today
 

yep ..X was back in shop to

1) replace a faulty side mirror that stopped dimming properly when reversing ...they tried fixing in the shop, told me it was fixed ..picked it up and it was worse than when it came in ..so an order came out of Asia somewhere 1 week later ..went back and they re-replaced ..all good now.:thumbup:

2) fix pinging suspension sound in rear - BMW know about this problem and has quick fix - basically they use a special type of silicon powder to lubricate and the problem is now 80% better ..so happy about that fix too

3) rear bumper starting riding up on lower tailgate section (I noticed this problem on another X5 I was following a few days ago) ..I suspect a design fault that breaks clips when rear bumper gets any form of a slight knock/nudge (as you do when blind dickheads decide to use your X as a dodgem car when parking in tight spots) ..anyway they replaced the clips (bumper had to come off to do this)

I'm still wondering about all this ..$120k and all these sorts of basic problems ?! I thought those days were gone after I dumped my 09 X5 lemon. anyway ...still enjoying the ride alot when all is working well

on that note - BMW gave me a X1 23d as a loaner -- I thought it might be fun ..but I can tell you right now it was a horrible little mongrel of a car - poor stability in wet today, lag, slough until pressed, bubble ass front end and looks just wrong from even the cockpit, plastic plastic plastic, tight and hard sport seats, shit ride ..man ..it was just horrible ...when I got back into the X5 it felt like a magic carpet ride :) now I can see why people love the X5!!!

all BMWs are famous for their faulty reversing side mirrors..happened to our previous X3 as well, took it back to dealer about 4 times and still hasn't been fixed. glad we got rid of it and upgraded to X5!

note that you have a 2010 model, was your a pre-LCI twin-turbo diesel?

had an x1 diesel as a loaner as well recently and fully agree with your comments, a truly nasty little, claustrophobic car, and how rough does the suspension have to be.

I've been driving an X1 25i for five days now and I don't think it's all that bad. It has the optional 18s with 225/45 rubber instead of the standard 225/50R17s and the ride, even on the crap roads around here, is okay. Remember this thing is built to a price. You can pay X1 money for an up-spec Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe, so what do you expect? Okay, I now those Korean SUVs are bigger but they would even get a decent look at an X1s exhaust pipe before it disappeared down a winding road.

I feel a bit dopey. I've been driving this X1 25i for a over a week now and thinking to myself now torquey it feels for a 2.5-litre petrol engine. Turns out is has a 3.0-litre petrol six, despite the 25i name plate. Funny thing is that it's only rated at a maximum of 160kW, around what you'd expect for a 2.5, and not the 200kW you'd would expect from a BMW 3.0-litre petrol six. The other interesting thing is that it makes its maximum torque at an almost diesel-like 2500rpm.
