Assists To Bluetooth 2004 Questions:

Hi,
I'm planning on doing this mod.
I have a bunch of questions, I hope people can help me out.

1) How much is this part? I found part numbers but no one has posted a price.

2) About how long would it take to install?

3) How difficult is it?

4) What features do I get?

5) For example, if I pair my phone, can I basically make calls and stuff like that? Sorry if it sounds stupid.

6) I have a Sony K700i phone, I don't really care to much for the snap in adapter thing. I just want to be able to pair my phone to the car.

7) If I can make calls and such, is it through my speakers?

8) How good is the sound quality?

9) What are the exact parts I need? I don't want the snap in adapter or anything like that.

10) Do I need to get another antenna?

Thanks for your help. Any help is much appreciated.

1. AdvancedAutovations has the 2004 Assist-to-Bluetooth kit listed for $460 - http://advancedautovations.com/e530402.html

2. Should take under an hour, give or take

3. Not that difficult if you are somewhat mechanically inclined and can follow basic installation and wiring instructions

4. Bluetooth and voice recognition

5. You can make and receive calls, look at recent calls made, review the address book (phone dependent), etc. All the basic functions a cell phone can perform.

6. This phone appears to be compatible based on feedback received from other owners - http://www.xoutpost.com/html.php?file=bmw_bt_phones.htm

7. There is a mic in the overhead console and the sound is through the front speakers. It automatically mutes the radio when a call is made or received.

8. Good, basically speaker phone quality.

9. Should just be a swap of the TCU (the Assist module for the BT module). See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=23

10. No, not if you are replacing the Assist module (note: you will lose Assist with this particular conversion.

Not to confuse things but certain 2004's can have their Assist module replaced with the Motorola combo Assist/BT module (part number 84 11 6 946 993) so that they can have both Assist and BT. If you decide to install the snap-in adaptor (there isn't one for the K700i) then you'll need to install a 2nd antenna for this. The 993 module is about $600, give or take.

Thanks so much!!!! I'm getting a better understanding.

Since I have a Sept 2003 build, I don't need a second antenna right?

I basically don't have to worry about the 993 and just get the 84 21 6 955 522 right?

I understand I will lose the Assist feature, but I have a cell phone, so I don't really need Assist.

I asked my dealership and they quoted me $900 to $1000 for the part and installation. They said it would take three hours. Has anyone done this on a September 2003 build X5? maybe you can help me.

I talked and emailed people that have done this, but got confused because others have gotten the snap in adapter. I don't have one availbe for my phone.

I read that this part is only 84 21 6 955 522 $355 is that true?

I have a 04 X5 with assist. I purchased a 84.21 6-945387-01 Bluetooth ULF module. This unit will not work for me because I have a V710 from Verizon. My car was built in 12-03 and I have just purchased and had installed the 05 assist/bluetooth module, the only one that works with V710.
If you have assist the ULF is easy to install and the part runs about $450-$500 complete. Don't let the dealer charge you 3 hours to install it.
If you're interested I plan to sell my ULF that I replaced with the new assist/bluetooth module. You can contact me at [email protected]

Just a suggestion, try putting your Visteon module for sale in the "Items for Sale" forum. Bluetooth is a popular mod, so you should get some bites on it quickly - http://www.xoutpost.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

I didn't know that the bluetooth/assist 2005 module works for our cars. I have a 10/2003 production.
