Blackberry 7290 and 2005 X5 4.4

I managed to get my new blackberry 7290 paired with the X5, however I can't answer or dial with steering wheel controls or voice recognition. Anybody have any suggestions? :dunno:

Unfortunately I was never able to get my BB 7250 to do more than what you have (the 7250 is just the CDMA version of your 7290). I have a 2005 X5 with BT/Assist. I finally gave up. According to the RIM site, it is a known issue with BMW/BB incompatibility regarding implementation of bluetooth. Good luck and post back if you ever get it working...

The blackberry 7100 is one of the listed "compatable" phones, but it says that you have to manually transfer the phonebook and I have no idea how to do that. If the 7100 works the 7290 should.

that's about as far as I got with my HPC PocketPC 6600. It paired, but I couldn't dial or receive calls from the car and if I dialed manually on the phone it wouldn't transfer the call.

I have got the 7100 working with X5 2005 however don't know how to up load phone book. Salesman fot voice activated calling once but I am not having any luck. Where do I find a list of commands voice activation understands.

Voice commands for the BMW VR system are
Dial number
Dial name
Add name
Delete name
Play phonebook
Clear phonebook
Redial
If you are talking about voice commands supported by your particular phone, you'd have to refer to the phone documentation for this.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks. Tried adding number, seems to respond but don't know how to terminate the number. Tried end and then it thought I was saying 59 then terminated. Save?
Tried adding name and it said sorry and terminated. I guess I need to have some detailed instructions on how to use the system. Any idea where I would find them.

For the Voice Recognition Manual try this:

Follow this sequence:

YOU: "Dial Number"

VR: "Please speak the number"

YOU: "555-555-5555"

VR: "555-555-5555 Continue"

YOU: "Dial"

VR: "Dialing"

------------------------------

If the VR doesn't have the right number, say "Cancel" instead of "Dial"

Nobody answered the question on how to upload the phone book from the 7100 to the car. Anyone know how to do that?

duffin 01-12-2006 02:40 PM

I came across this thread looking for a solution.

I do know that the 7290 will pair, but will not upload phonebook.

My experience to date is that every time the car and the 7290 does he handshake, it tries to load the phonebook. While it tries, I can NOT switch between audio sources (CD, radio) and I can't dial out.

Is there any way to force the X5 not to look for the address book?

Do you have software v4.0.2 loaded? It is a newer release that allows both the BB 7250 and 7290 to integrate better with BMW bluetooth. My 7250 was useless before upgrading the s/w to this release. It is now flawless except that the phonebook download is disabled (it tries to download for a second and then indicates that the phonebook is empty...so I use stored VR commands for phone numbers). The phone does not hang during the process.

I've heard that another newer s/w release is coming (v4.2) for the 7250/7290 that will allow phonebook transfers also...I'm not betting on it but it would be nice.

I have v4.0.0.219 on the handheld and 4.1.0.8 on the desktop side.

How do I find the upgrade for the handheld? It is not on the backberry site.

Yup...you have the older (quirky) software that was very unstable. For my 7250, the upgrade was on the blackberry site. For the 7290, it seems to be on the phone service provider's website instead. For instance, the 7290 is offered by Rogers Wireless here in Calgary, and the updated software for the 7290 is on the Roger's site. Try your service provider. :dunno:

It was a pain in the ass to find the Cingular path to upgrade toe handheld software.

If found links in the Cingular user forum area, NOT on the main Cingular support page.

Here is the linK for others.

I will test this update.

I will test this update.

Update works flawlessly except for the known lack of address book upload.

Now if I can only get better microphone sound, I'd be happy.
