Does the 2006 X5 support Bluetooth voice commands?
The phone manual mentions it but gives no details, and the steering wheel has a voice activation button similar to the one my 2006 330i had, but it does not seem to work.
The bluetooth hands free seems to work fine, however I have to say the new 3 series seems to have a much better implementation of the bluetooth. I'm using a Motorola E815 phone. Thanks for the help. Mike |
Press the button on the steering wheel that looks like an icon of a speaking face. When you hear a beep, say "help" and see what happens.

My 2006 330i had the beep and voice. I wonder if they installed the wrong TCU or something. It is also strange the that the manual mentions the Voice Activation with *, however it does not provide any further information. very stange!! |
It should. I know the 2006 X5s come with bluetooth with voice commands.

Anyone out there with a 2006 X5 with voice commands that work?
If I push the button on the steering wheel with the speaking face icon and nothing happens....no beep, no voice etc.. |
Thats very odd. I've heard of Euro models having issues as they sometimes have to specify voice commands as a seperate line item.
If you feel desired ... if you report back with the part # of the TCU you have in your car, we can check to see if it has Voice commands built in. |

I also read that you have to hold the button for 5-10 seconds to get the beep. I will try holding the button longer tomorrow, but I don't think it work. It will be interested to see what the dealership has to say... I also find it strange that the phone manual does not mention any of the voice commands. |
I have a 2006 X5 and the voice command works just like El Jeffe said. It also let's you use some commands on the nav system.

I pushed the speaking face icon button and held for a few seconds and sure enough, I got the beep and was able to store names and numbers. I was not holding the button long enough. Thanks for the help! Mike |
Was this new for 2006 or do 2004-2005 X5's have it?

I have a similar question. I have a 2007 BMW X3, the voice command works for the phone but not for navigation. Is that the way it is for X3's, or do I have some problem? Thanks.
|
No nothing is wrong. You get VR commands for the phone only. BMW introduced VR commands to their BMW Assist with Bluetooth implementation around March/April 2005.
Now someone will probably come along and say ... yes, but I have BT but also have VR commands for the NAV ... Well, for folks that have Bluetooth only (i.e not BMW Assist with BT), mainly folks in Europe, or folks in the USA that retrofitted a Bluetooth ULF module then they get the VR commands for the NAV as well. Confusing isn't it? Why BMW use two different suppliers for their Bluetooth modules is anyones guess. Motorola for the Assist/BT TCU and Visteon for the BT ULF module. |

new and uncoded... VR worked fine for phone before coding and after with sat nav+tv and I now have partial VR for Sat Nav commands.... weird thing is my scale commands will only take metres not yards... and i have no Help Navigation only Help phone to get options.... I know very confusing... friend has 2005 e46 and has factory Bt but NO VR!!!!! |
ditto to above,
I have a 2006 X5 and the voice command works just like El Jeffe said. saying help was a lot more useful than the manual in getting it setup. Ravnew , "It also let's you use some commands on the nav system." didn't know about this is it doc'd anywhere ? |
OK so for us who have the BMW Assist with Bluetooth and built in VR for the phone only. How can we add the VR for the nav and memo?
