How can I tell the generation of BT module?

First of all, I'd like to thank Brian-BMW for confirming that new BB 8100 Pearl works fine with 5th generation module.

By the way, how can I figure it out what generation of module I have? My X5 is 2005, manufactured in June 2005, 3.0i. The BT system is factory installed, but one part, FP Number 84 10 6 963 798 Telematics Cont. VI, was replaced since the factory installed was out of order. At that time, I got new BT code after replacing the part.

I read postings here and there, but I could not find the part number. If you guys know the generation of the unit with this number, that'll be great, or please let me know how I can get that info.

Brian-BMW confirmed that BB 8100 pearl works great with gen 5 module. Does this mean it would work with modules after gen 5 modules too?

Thank you.

Brian

You probably have the BMW Assist module in your car, which is different from the Bluetooth ULF modules that I and others are using. I read another post on the E60 forum that the Pearl works great in the new 5 Series too, so I am confident that it will work with all of BMW's Bluetooth systems.

I also tested the Pearl with a newer ULF. My hunch is that it works great with all of the ULF modules.

From a post I put here in June 2006:

I had my TCU replaced yesterday, on my 05/05 production car. I was assured that a) the -798 module was the latest version for the X5, and b) they had installed the -798 module in mine.

Thanks guys.
