BMW Bluetooth Flaw?
 

I installed the latest generation BMW bluetooth in my 2001 740il. I was surprised to learn that it cannot dial the # or * sybols, or dial any number in the phone's phonebook that has these symbols or a pause programmed in, such as one would use in checking voice mail. Instead, you have to use the phone to dial these digits, which totally defeats the purpose of safely using the bluetooth.

This does not seem right to me since, dailing these symbols is not something new - any phone can do it. SO I wanted to see if anyone had the same issue. If so, I would like to contact BMW and let them know this, it would seem to be a simple fix, especially considering that (1) all phones can do this (2) the NAV screes has the # and * symbols that can be dialed manually under the "telephone" screen.

It doesn't look like you have the latest generation ULF or TCU. The latest generation of both support * and #.

My dealer tried to replace my broken BT module with an old one and it had your same problem; I couldn't save a name speaking * or #. Luckily they replaced it with a new module.

Is the voice on your system male or female? If it is female, you must definitely have an old system.
