Using the new Samsung I730 with X5
 

HI, I was wondering if anyone is using the new Samsung I730 with the X5 for Bluetooth yet? I was going to pick up this phone, but only if it works with the X5.

I've had limited success.. The i730 pairs nicely with my 2005 x5 but no phone book, no initiate/answer calls via the x5. Once in a call, I've been able to talk/hear via the x5 mic/speakers but that's about it.. Given the phone is so new, I'm hoping there will be fixes/hacks in the works..

Thanks for your reply. I would like to get this phone and really hope that the issues you mentioned can somehow be resolved.

Interesting....my Verizon V710 and Treo 650 pairs well with the 2005 BT/Assist module and no hacks needed. Phone book transfers and Caller ID shows up and you can make calls from either the car's telephone menu, steering wheel, or voice recognition or from the Treo or V710. Maybe there is a newer firmware for your Samsung. The Visteon bluetooth module doesn't work with all BT phones either. Seems like the newer BT/Assist modules are more compatible with more BT devices.

I assume I have the newer BT/Assist module (my X5 is only 60 days old). After looking into it further, it seems Verizon has disabled BT DUN on this phone; and possibly other BT profiles. Anyone know what BT profiles BMW uses to synch phonebooks and place/disconnect calls from the car's telephone menu?

Yes, with a 2005 you have the newer BT/Assist module.

In general, phones that utilize the Bluetooth HANDSFREE protocol "should" be compatible with the BMW Bluetooth systems, although issues with how the handset manufacturer implements this protocol impact overall compatibility as well as automatic phone book and SIM transfer. BMW's requirements for a phone to work are:: (a) Bluetooth, (b) Handsfree profile, and (c) Object Exchange.

(a) Bluetooth + (b) Handsfree profile => ability to make/receive calls

(c) Object Exchange => transfer of phone book from phone to car

My dealer told me this week that any device running Windows Mobile or Windows CE are generally incompatible with the BMW BT. Sux since I love my i730...

I tried to get the i730 working, but during a call it just cuts off. I'm wondering what the options are here. I doubt Verizon will do anything.

Apparently it's not a Verizon problem; rather a BMW problem with the BT programming and syncing with a Windows Mobilt or Windows CE device.
