NOKIA E61i
 

Is this a GSM/W-CDMA variant phone? Anybody got one? Does it work with the X5 ? http://www.nokia.co.in/nokia/0,,101663,00.html

None of the Symbian OS phones seem to work with the BMW bluetooth system. The best you can hope for is that they connect, but address book transfer is hopeless.

E61i is a GSM/3G device. I doubt it will work in USA. I have a similar phone (E60, similar software) and I can try it on our X3, but as Eric said, I doubt it will work with the BMW. I've tried a N70 (older symbian software) and it failed miserably. It connects to the car, but always refuses to send the sound back to the car speakers (and no addressbook). On the other hand, I have the same issues with all my SonyEricsson devices (disclaimer: I work for Vodafone Group at Germany) - the only device that works 80% of the time is the K750, all others work only around 20%. Usually they work on the first call, but later they never send the sound back to the car. :( I've kind of given up the bluetooth module from BMW.

I had one - it works in the US, but will not transfer the phonebook with BMW Bluetooth. I wasn't a fan of this phone due to poor reception and shape.

Confirmed. I've tried hard to make a Nokia N70 and a Nokia E60 to work with our X3 '06 (navi pro + bluetooth module), but they never coorporate. Forget about them, and any other symbian device :(.

On the other hand, I've retried my SonyEricsson K800, and this time it worked perfectly. I've tried several combinations (turn car off, turn device off, etc), and it always worked nicely, with sound both ways and everything :) much better than the K750 :)

no problems with my e61 or e61i on my 06 x3 with factory bluetooth, no phone book though

did anyone tried to send all contacts from the phone via bluetooth to the X5?

i think you can do that, but the problem is the syncronization (the contacts in the phone are changing continuesly, but in the car they stay like the first time you transfered them :-(

Save the file to your PC and transfer to your Nokia handset.
Once saved to your phone, delete the bluetooth pairing between the car and
the phone.
Go and sit in your car
Run the 'Contacts Download Manager' which will be seen as an icon under
your Applications folder.
Follow the instructions on the phone and in about 2 minutes

I found the above information on several forums related to the Parrot bluetooth and the Audi in car bluetooth systems that were not syncing the phone books for the Nokia systems. Does anyone know if this will work for the BMW system? I need to replace my POS crapjack and I would like a Nokia phone. I had a P910a from Sony Ericsson but those don't seem to work very well with the BMW bluetooth systems either.

it does not work with my E65 though... anyway this soft is for Nokia bluetooth, but our bluetooth is made by someoneelse

The instructions I found was not for Nokia bluetooth. The software is for the Nokia phones to the Parrot Bluetooth and the Audi vehicle bluetooth systems. Would you have the BMW bluetooth in your car? Would you mind testing this for me? I need a new phone and want to get a Nokia but I don't know if I should invest in the BMW bluetooth if it will not work with current phones.

in previous post i said that i tried it and it does not work.
on the download page of nokia it says that it is for a specific model of bluetooth car handfree made by nokia.

This should work for any symbian phone, no SMS but thats no biggy

Just bought a Nokia n95 and I paired it to my Gen3 ULF last night and transfered the phonebook.

Here's how to get the phone book across. (its a bit fiddly but works)

If you have already paired the phone (n95), then delete the paring on the phone.

Start the paring process again;

Press and hold the pair button,
Turn on ignition (stage 1),
Wait 3 seconds, release pair button,
ULF goes to paring mode,
Search and find ULF,
Select and input code,
Confirm pairing and connect, (this is normally where you then switch off the ignition to save the pair, DON'T)

While still in the pairing/connected mode go to the "contacts" on the phone,
Mark 10/15 contacts and use send business card -> via blue-tooth -> bmwxxxxx,

Then select another 10/15 and same again until all the contacts are transfered,

When finished the turn off the ignition to save the pair and address book transfer.

Wait until the phone disconnects with the car, then turn on ignition and hey presto the phone book is available.

why not mark all contacts at once? did you try it that way?

Too many contacts overload the transfer buffer and the transfer fails...

I only have about 30 contacts and it failed every time I tried "mark all", so I did it in 3 hits of 10, worked a charm.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about getting an N95 too. How do you like the phone overall?

The n95 is a very nice phone, its about the same depth and hight of a 6230i but a bit wider (all screen), it feels nice in your hand (not heavy at all) and has loads of features, I hardly use the phone, and mostly use mine for the mp3/video player and its great for that, I have the a2dp clip and the quality is very good.

I've bought a 4Gb micro-SD card and it works well in it too.

The only downside is the battery life, it blows, less than a day charge from a full battery, I'm getting a 1800mHA (thats twice the capacity of OEM), hopefully it should be a bit better with that.

The camera is very good to, you get the full 5Megapixel for photos and the video recorder is not bad, you can hook it up to a TV and get reasonable results.

The only reason I bought it was I was sick of carrying around several devices (phone, mp3 player, camera etc....) and the n95 does a reasonable job at all of them.

I've heard that if you debrand the phone back to nokia OEM (from your carriers OS) then things like the menus speed up and the camera works even better, the VOIP works and even the WiFi is better too.

Just an update, I've debranded my n95 (from orange-uk) and I have to say with the new firmware its a much better phone, the battery life is much impoved, I'm getting over 2-3 days without charging and the camera seems much clearer, overall the menus are quicker and once the quick keys are setup then accesing the video and music player is a doddle.

I was able to connect a E90 Communicator with X5 E70 without a problem, including phonebook transfer. You just have to use the 810 headset app.

So, the E61i should work the same
