Bluetooth Retrofit in 2001 X5, No Sound

Hi there,

I have a 09/01 X5, with Nav, no DSP and no phone pre-wiring. I have a 5th gen bluetooth module, and the Bimmernav kit for a non pre-wired Euro car.

I have completed the install, including ELK800 amplifier supplied by Martin at Bimmernav (as have no DSP). Phone paired with no problem (Orange SPV M600) including all phone book entries etc. Only problem is there is no audio.

I have tried adjusting the gain on the amplifier, but with no success. Please can anyone help / suggest what may be wrong?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeremy.

Access the radio module and see if you have phone audio on the pins noted in this link

Hi,

Where do I look for these pins to test?

Could this be a ULF problem? How would I test for this?

Also, the ULF cannot now read the phonebook, although it did manage to originally.

Thanks,
Jeremy.

The radio module is located down in the spare tire well in the rear.

The only way I could suggest to test if it a ULF problem would be to swap the ULF with a known working one and see if the problem follows the module or the vehicle.

Hi,

Thanks UCrewX5. But the diagram for the 2001 unit with Nav doesn't seem to indicate which pin to test for phone audio.

If I test the output from the ELK800 amp, what should I be looking for on my test meter?

I have tried remaking all connections, but still no luck.

Thanks,

Jeremy.

pull out the radio and make sure that the telephone wires are plugged in

Same problem

I had the same problem yesterday, my phone wires were not connected to the radio (NO NAV) I pulled the cd player out and the connecter plugs into the main radio connector, it is taped to the main harness that plugs into the cdplayer.

That's a common problem for non-nav vehicles, but he has nav.

You are right, I have Nav fitted.

OK, so how can I check / test the output from the ULF into my ELK 800 amp, and from there to the radio / speakers.

This is really starting to bug me ...

TIA

Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy,

Sounds like the ELK 800 output connection is not connected, (to anything).

Simple way to test for sound, is connect single speaker up to the audio output from the ulf (or ELK 800 output).

The OEM BT audio out is connected via the "AUX in" connector on the back radio. (one of the smaller connector blocks)

I'll assume you have the 17 round pin connector.

for 17 round pin Connector

ULF Audio Tel +: 10 Pin Connector X01037 or X13321: PIN 8
ULF Audio Tel -: 10 Pin Connector X01037 or X13321: PIN 3

for 40 pin Quadlock.

ULF Audio Tel +: 12 Pin Connector X13649: PIN 6
ULF Audio Tel -: 12 Pin Connector X13649: PIN 12

Hope this helps

John
