Installation of ULF in E53 - Cannot find the 54 pin connector
 

I have a European X5 E53 2003 model (built in Nov 2002) equipped with sat nav and multi CD in the rear.
I have just bought a ULF module, bluetooth antenna, eject box, microphone etc and started to open up the rear of the car to connect and mount the ULF.
I thought my car was prewired but unfortunately, I cannot find the 54 pin connector and its loom for plugging into the ULF. Am I looking in the wrong place? Could it be hidden behind the sat nav or multi CD?

It could be, have a good look behind all the stuff in the boot, it could be wedged in there some where, but if you can't find it, check with bmw headquarters in your country, they will tell you if your car has prewire for the phone.

I have just called my dealer and quoted my chassis number to enquire whether my car is pre-wired or not. To my amazement, they have informed me that my car is not pre-wired. I thought all X5s from 2002 on were pre-wired.
Well, I guess I will have to abandon this project as the thought of ripping everything up inside the car to install a new cable loom is too much to contemplate.

It is a big job to install the harness but not impossible! You probably don't need to pull apart as much of the car as you think? If you have all of the other parts I would ask the dealer to quote the installation.

I just got my combo assist/BT working with the Sat Nav and it is REALLY good - I would recommend it!

Based on your year vehicle you could have the DB25 connector and if so then you'll need a conversion harness. See if you see a connector that looks like this -

you could always make you own 54pin to 24pin convertor, take a couple of hours and about $40.

I made mine (for an e46) but its the same concept. I'll post up what I did.
