By the way, here's the file with the BMW logo I created to use as a background. It is already optimized for the iPhone (set to size and DPI). Just download it to your computer (right click, save as) and upload it to your iPhone, then set it as your background.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the graphic,

Does it also download the addresses for the navigation ???

Yeah BT.

Thanks for the image. I will do that if my iPhone ever gets activated. :saad:

josejb70 07-02-2007 02:01 PM

Eric, you gotta be kidding me!!!! You're still waiting for activation??? I've heard some nightmare stories. I lucked out. Mine took 2 minutes.

BTW, I just discovered a cool new thing. The display (I don't have nav) now says the full name for the type of phone number -- i.e. John Smith (Mobile). It doesn't do the (M) anymore. One more little cool thing.

Yes, still waiting. Last spoke to an AT&T tech person about an hour ago and was told hopefully I should be activated by tonight, but they can't promise anything.

How's your voicemail working with bluetooth? Mine is not, I have to get my messages the old fashion way. :dunno:

josejb70 07-02-2007 06:49 PM

Canamx5, I don't have nav, so I cannot check visual-voicemail via BT. But, now that you mention it, I have not gotten any voicemails since Friday! I've been so excited about using the phone that I'm answering every call. I should let it go to voicemail to try the visual-vm thingy! LOL!

I can't do visual either. (never could) I used to be able to listen to my voicemail through the audio system in the car though. (like a regular call)

josejb70 07-03-2007 07:24 AM

That's easy to get around. If you have voice-dial, simply create a voicetag called "voicemail" and assign it your cell phone number (the full number). And, you're set. Next time you say "dial name" -- Please say the name -- "voicemail" -- Would you like to dial voicemail? "yes" -- the phone will connect directly to your voicemail and you'll be able to listen to it the old fashioned way. You can even use the keys on the dash to delete and save messages.

I'm successfully using the iPhone with my 2004 M3 which has Nav and BMW Assist + Bluetooth.

iPhone transfers the address book perfectly and appends (Work), (Home), (Mobile) to each address book entry. This now makes it easier to find the correct number using the NAV telephone address book sub menu option.

I've also found that the audio gets routed always correctly to the car, and under the Nav telephone INFO setting, signal strength of the iPhone gets displayed correctly.

A few points though.

1. I turned Wi-Fi off on the iPhone as I found it interferred with the bluetooth audio.
2. You can change the bluetooth audio volume level on the iPhone itself. Simply start a conversation, and use the volume level on the iPhone to change the bluetooth audio level. Once set, iPhone will remember that setting. I found this was useful to set the level similar to the voice entry system audio level.

In addition, I can also report that the iPhone also works perfectly with my NAV ipod interface as well (http://www.intravee.co.uk) When the iPhone is plugged into the intravee system, the iphone is kept charged. Intravee of course generates all the correct menus on the NAV screen to allow you to listen and search for music ... just like a regular iPod. Use the link to see a video of the interface in action with a iPod ... but its the same for a iPhone.

All in all, a very cool device thats now nicely integrated into the BMW.

2006 X5 and iPhone woes . . .

Everyone-

I'll share my limited experience. I have a 2006 X5 with the factory-installed bluetooth kit without nav. The iPhone pairing went easy, with no issues. Initial calls out from the BMW headunit, out from the iPhone, and into the iPhone went well with no problems. Addressbook from the iPhone transferred completely and was accessible from the headunit. After all that, I figured it was working great and should have no problems.

Well, advance about a day later. When entering the vehicle, the iPhone and X5 are having trouble finding each other and establishing their connection. I've had a few different issues. One time, the X5 continually stated "Downloading Phonebook!" and never left that screen. However, the most common problem seems to be that when a call is initiated from the iPhone, the X5 head unit shows the call, the person being called can hear what's going on inside the X5, but the person in the X5 cannot hear anything.

I was hoping that since the iPhone was stated to work flawlessly with the new X5 and 3 series that it would work with my X5. As a side note, it does work flawlessly with my E90 325xi.

Any other experience out there or possible fixes?

Thanks a lot.

JBM,

I am experiencing the exact same. One other thing that is happening to me is that when I make a call, the first 5 to 10 seconds of the call are unstable with the sound coming and going. Afterward, the call stabalizes and sound works great.

JBM 07-15-2007 10:13 AM

Thanks for the input. I actually had the same audio problem. But after turning off WiFi on the iPhone, the audio problem stopped and everything came in clear.

In general, the iPhone and the BMW's Bluetooth work fine. I have noticed though if I'm on a call and enter the car, the Bluetooth will not transfer.

That's about it. Any other experiences?

What year X5's do you guys have? My 2004 pairs up fine and addressbook downloads. But calls won't go through, making them or receiving them. Is my iPhone defective?

josejb70 09-11-2007 07:47 AM

Mine is a MY2005, but I have the latest TCU. My bluetooth died a couple of months ago and they replaced it under warranty.

Is your bluetooth OEM? and is your truck under warranty? If its both, take it to the dealership. The iPhone is a BMW-approved phone and warranted to work. Let them figure it out! :-)

It's OEM but installed it myself.
