Change VR from German to English, need SES jumper plug?

I have recently bought a 2004 X3 (Euro) which was equipped with the Phone Professional (fixed installation in car using a SIM-card, I do not think it was offered in the US) and the VR-module (in German....).

Because of all the great information on this board I decided to change it to BT, replaced the phone for the ejectbox and ordered the new(est) ULF, part no 84109145007. The dealership where I ordered the items were somewhat amazed, they treated me like some nitwit for trying this and the 'whole car needed to be reprogrammed.....' Well, when I installed it it worked, plug & play

Only thing is that the VR is still in German and I do not like it that much (has something to do with that thing that happened about 65 years ago....). I understand that the newest ULF's have VR built in so I have the following questions:

1. Pulling the SES connection from the VR-box and putting the SES jumper switch on it would probably activate the VR in the ULF?

If so, does anyone here have a 'spare' jumper switch from their retrofit installation for me to buy (or otherwise I have to buy it from bimmernav etc).

Also is it not just some wires that get rerouted, if so , does anyone have the pinout so I perhaps can first try it out before ordering/buying the jumper switch.

2. What are the odds that the VR in the ULF is not activated since I bought it here in Europe? But if that is the case I understood that using the Navcoder s/w would be able to activate it?

3. What language is the VR in? Is it always English (what I hope for) or is it dependent on a vehicle setting?

Your help is most appraciated!

Your ULF will support multiple languages already although I'm not sure if Dutch is supported - others will know. I've coded my Nav to support GB, US and ES. Switching between these changes the Nav menus, voices and changes the VR to talk in UK or American English, or Spanish and to recognise me talking in English or Spanish. I can switch language for VR in the normal way through the nav set option. New VR language works after turning ignition off and on.

If you don't have Prof Nav, you could still use Navcoder to re-code a default language - this should change the vehicle language coding and the ULF VR default. A dealer can also do this very easily. However, if Dutch isn't supported in the ULF you could code the entire car for English - clocks etc. VR in English is still KM and Metres, so not too bad.

I'm not sure a SES plug is needed - these were for early BT systems that had a separate VR (SES) box. Yours is all intregrated in the ULF - MIT SES (with VR).

Thanks for your respons, I also assume Dutch is not supported, I am hoping for English.

Thing is I have a separate SES box with the German language hard coded in it. When I pull the plug out of it the whole VR does not work. I looked at the ULF and it has 'mit SES' written on it. So the way I think it works is that I pull the plug, put on the jumper switch and only then (because of the rewiring of the SES plug) the SES/VR of the ULF is used... So I think I just answered one of my questions...

I have a German X5.
Coded the nav to Dutch, English and German or French.
Would it be possible to have the nav in Dutch and the Instrument cluster and SES in English?
As it is a German car it defaults to German if I select Dutch.
If not, is anybody having a German manual for the BT?
Need to know the available commands.

It depends, do you have a seperate voice module? That is hard coded to German, so there is nothing you can do about changing that. If you have a BT-ULF which has 'mit SES' written on it you can change that to English if you want, just use the SES-jumper plug (€ 15 at you local BMW-dealer, they probably cannot find it immediately but after putting the request through at the main office they found it :)). With that plug the SES of the BT-ULF is used, which can be switched between German and English depending on the settings of your language setting.

What I also did was that I bought a CD with the latest Dutch firmware, updated my nav-system and everything is now Dutch (both the menu as well as the navigation voice), only the SES is English (that does not exist in Dutch). I do not think it is possible to use English menu and Dutch nav, it is one package. Possibly you can have English menu etc and Dutch spoken instructions, but then you need to be able to do some serious coding to combine the two and make a new firmware.

I also have the German manual with all the speechcommands, if you drop me an email at c_setag [at] hotmail [dot] com I can send it to you (and if you want an image of the Dutch nav software that is probably also no problem :))
